Albert Eugene Gross, affectionately known as Gene, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at Harmony on the Peninsula Senior Living Facility in Yorktown, Virginia.
Born on December 28, 1942, in Asheville, North Carolina, Gene later moved with his family to Newport News, Virginia, where he attended Newport News Public Schools. After leaving school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, he returned home and pursued training at The Career Academy of Dental Technology, earning his Apprenticeship Certification as a Dental Technician in June 1971.
Gene began his career working alongside his longtime friend, Kenny Byrd, at a small dental lab in Hilton Village. He later continued his service to others as a Dental Technician at the Hampton Veterans Administration, where he remained until his retirement in 2000.
In 1966, Gene married the love of his life, Patricia Robinson. Their union was blessed with one son, Steven T. Gross. Gene enjoyed an active life—whether playing basketball, softball, tennis, or simply spending cherished time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Minnie Gross; his brothers, Charles Banks, Joseph Banks Jr., and James Gross; and his sisters, Cathy Gross and Betty Royster.
Left to honor his memory are his devoted wife of 61 years, Patricia Gross; his loving son and daughter‑in‑law, Steven and Valencia; his beloved grandchildren, Morgan Elise and Steven Carrington; brothers‑in‑law, Isaac Royster and Edward Robinson (JoAnn); sisters‑in‑law, Princess Facen‑Stepp (Wendell), Barbara Ford (James), and Corinthia Robinson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Gene was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His warmth, loyalty, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him
