Brenda Dixon-Lofland, age 78, a beloved member of the Phoebus community, sadly transitioned from our world early on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Brenda, the eldest of six children was born on September 15th, 1945, to Jerome and Lydia Pulley, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She graduated George P. Phenix High School (c/o ’63) where she was an exceptional student and majorette. Brenda was full of life and had a thirst for adventure; she left a mark on the lives of all whom she encountered. She was beautiful, charming and elegant, with a classy demeanor.
After graduating high school, Brenda matriculated to Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) to study nursing. She left after one year to be a mother to her son (Monte). She continued to work in the medical field until she enlisted in the United States Army in 1975. She served honorably for 20 years, retiring in 1995, as a Staff First Class (E-6).
Brenda earned her college degree at Norfolk State University in education and taught in public school for several years.
Predeceased by her father, Jerome Pulley and brothers, Michael and Glenn Pulley; Brenda’s memory will be kept alive by her, Mother; son Monteir Jerome Pulley; grandchildren, Alyssa and Stefan Pulley; and great-grandchildren, Penelope and Ophelia; Siblings, Toni Bailey (Desi), Jennifer (Clarence) and Timothy Pulley and so many other relatives and friends.
