Cheryl Iris Peatross-Ingram, 67, of Hampton, VA, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, VA.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Ave., Newport News, VA 23605. Rev. Dr. Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23663 and from 9:00 – 11:00 AM before service starts the day of the funeral at Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Cheryl was born in Newport News, VA on December 15, 1955. She was educated in the Hampton Public School System, graduating from Hampton High School in 1974.
Cheryl professed her life to Christ at an early age. She loved working in the church and cherished praising the Lord. Serving on several committees, always enjoying helping others, she served as the Assistant Financial Secretary of the Missionary Board at Gethsemane Baptist Church (GBC); as the Secretary on the GBC Decorations and Craft Committee; as the former Financial Secretary for the GBC Fifty Plus Club; and was a member of the Area H Missionary Hampton/Newport News Chapter until her health prevented her services.
Cheryl loved to read the bible, praying for and with others, spending time with friends and family, laughing, window shopping, and the Dallas Cowboys. She was a loving and caring person, devoted sister, aunt, and friend, always thinking of others first.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter “Zack” Ingram; father, Harvey O. Peatross, Sr.; mother, Verlia M. Peatross; and half-brother, Edrick James.
Cheryl leaves to cherish her loving memory her siblings, Joyce Dickerson of Alexandria, VA; Alvena Hill (Kelly) of Hampton, VA; Harvey Peatross, Jr. of Hampton, VA; Veronica Harris of Woodbridge, VA; and John Peatross (Johnetta) of Hampton, VA; two stepdaughters, Candace Ingram of Atlanta, GA and Yolanda Jones of Newport News, VA; aunt and uncle, Godfrey and Nellie Jones of Danville, VA; four nephews, Shawn Harris, Kendall Peatross, Kelsey Peatross, Donovan Peatross, and Demitris Hill; two great nieces and three great nephews; and a host of cousins, and friends.
