Cheryl Nixon Obituary

Mrs. Cheryl Lavette Nixon was born on July 22, 1968, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Edward L. Faulkner, Sr. and Roberta C. Faulkner. She was the oldest of five children. Cheryl was one of the first members of Agape Hands Cathedral Church where she attended for 32 years. She was a longtime resident of Newport News and graduated from WarwickHigh School in 1986.

Cheryl met and married Ernest Scott, Sr. on September 19, 1991. From their union, they raised two children, Crystal and LB. She worked with the City of Newport News Parks & Recreation Department for many years as a Center Supervisor for the city’s before and after school programs. In 2011, Cheryl met Dalton Dale Nixon I and they were married on August 15, 2015. From their union, she gained four bonus children, Toneshia, Tonica. Dalton II, and Danette Makaila. She worked in Property Management for Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority for 15 years until the Lord called her home.

Being the loving and compassionate person that she was, Cheryl was always taking care of others. She loved doing the Lord’s work and letting her light shine everywhere she went. Cheryl was always known for having a smile on her face and never complaining, even amid all her struggles. Some of Cheryl’s favorite words of encouragement and endearment to others were, “You just keep holding on,” “The Best is Yet to Come,”  and “Amen, I know that’s right!”

In addition to her full-time employment with the City of Hampton, Cheryl was a pillar within her church. She served as Assistant Director of the Children’s Church, Head of the Education Department, Deaconess, Head of the Missionary Board, and Food Bank Coordinator throughout her years of membership. She also participated in several community outreach organizations such as the Hampton Police Alumni, Community Builders Network, Strengthening Families Program and Alternatives, Inc. Cheryl was a social butterfly who made any room that she walked into brighter.

Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, travelling with her husband and church family, coloring, doing puzzles, playing with her grand-dog and dancing. She absolutely loved balloons and always made sure she gave them to her loved ones for their special occasions. Most importantly, Cheryl loved doing the Lord’s work and serving His people in any way she could. She would always say, “To God be the Glory.”

On July 2, 2022, Cheryl answered the Lord’s call from labor to reward. She fought a good fight and finished her race; not once did she lose her faith. Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mamie Louis Sinclair, and her fathers, Edward Faulkner, Sr., and Willie Joe McMillan. She leaves to treasure her loving memory her husband, Dalton Dale Nixon I; her children Crystal (John) Fox, Ernest “LB” Scott, Jr., Dalton Dale Nixon II,Danette Makaila Nixon, Toneshia Mack, Tonica Brown; mother, Roberta Coe McMillan; siblings Edward “June” (Geequeda) Faulkner, Jr., Carlton (Genalyn) Faulkner, Crystal (Damon) Faulkner, and Vernon (Shontia) Faulkner; elevengrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
