Clarence Holmes Obituary

Clarence LeRoy Holmes, Jr. 81, of Newport News, VA passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025 in his home.

He was born in New York City on January 28, 1944, son of the late Clarence LeRoy Holmes, Sr. and Mildred Holmes.

In Charleston, SC, is where he met his childhood sweetheart Marva A. Holmes and married on April 20, 1968 of 57 years and from this union one handsome son was born, Terrence Lamar Holmes.

Clarence roots started in Charleston, South Carolina where he attended Burke High School. When he graduated high school, Clarence moved to New York City, where he enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years. Following his military service, he worked other jobs, but needed to find his true passion. He studied and began a career in Real Estate. His dedication and entrepreneurial spirit lead him to establish and operate his own firm, Roy Holmes Realty in the Bronx, New York. After many years of serving his community and employing family and friends within his business, he retired to Newport News, Virginia.

Clarence known as “Roy “or “Jug“ to his family and friends was a God-fearing, kind and influential man who loved to have a good time with family and friends. He was also known as the “SHAKER” at his cookout functions, which left many of us in a different state of mind.

Lastly, Clarence was a man of style and a “SHARP” dresser, his love for hats and had one of the coolest walks. He truly loved the finer things in life.

Clarence leaves to cherish his memories: his dedicated and loving wife, Marva A. Holmes, his devoted son, Terrence Lamar Holmes, his youngest son, Luke/Lukie (pet) one brother, Julius J. Holmes, one sister, Lorraine Mitchell and his one and only granddaughter Kai Lamarenee Holmes. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law Tanneka Clark-Holmes, brother-in-law Earl Archer (Renee), and two sister-in-laws. Margie Jackson (Allen) and Peggy Washington (Tony), along with a host of niece’s, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
