Daequan Fleming Obituary

Daequan Travoris Fleming was born November 4, 1999 in Hampton, Virginia.  He departed this life on July 24, 2022.  Daequan was educated in Hampton Public Schools, Newport News Public Schools, and Achievable Dream.  He was a proud 2018 graduate of Phoebus High School.  Daequan was a sport enthusiast and football was his passion. He had 12 scholarship offers to different Division I schools.  Daequan attended Virginia University of Lynchburg.  He enjoyed playing drums and family togetherness was his mantra. 

    Daequan accepted his call to Christ and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia on September 11, 2016.  His church participation included Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Junior Ushers, Step Team.  Daequan also assisted the Pantry Ministry and Men of Zion.  With the Willing Workers, he served meals, cleaned up, and was a runner.  

    In the community, Daequan was a member of an organization that provided a Secret Santa Program annually.  He also picked up trash from several streets and helped with their Adopt A Spot for several hours. 

    Daequan was captain of the football team for Phoebus. In his junior and senior years of high school, he was named to 1st Team All State, All Region, and All Conference. Daequan also played varsity basketball, baseball, track and field, as well as rec league basketball.

His dream was to help to other people, pursue a degree in Business Administration, then own and operate businesses. 

    Daequan had a special bond with his grandfather, Willie Fleming who preceded his death.  Left to cherish his memories are his son, Truth Fleming; mother, Erica Fleming; father, Anthony Galloway; his sisters, Ayanna Galloway, Shaniya Galloway, Keala Lumpkins; brother, Rashaun Galloway; grandmothers, Lorna Fleming and Joy Vanclief; great-grandmother, Mildred Stewart; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends; and, a special friend, Shamiya.
