Darrin Alexander Sloan Jr., age 26, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on May 5, 2025, at Riverside Hospital.
Born on August 7, 1998, in Emporia, Virginia to Darrin Sloan Sr. and Gwendolyn Sloan, Darrin was a bright and adventurous spirit from the very beginning. As a child, he was known for his playful energy and love of fun, often seen side by side with his older brother and cousin—together known as the “Three Amigos”: Diondre, Jaquan, and Lil Darrin. His love of sports, especially basketball, was a constant in his life, and his athleticism made him stand out among his peers.
Darrin began his early education in Greenville County Public Schools and later completed his schooling with Hampton City Schools. After graduation, Darrin devoted himself to his passion for music. He appreciated all genres and channeled his energy into writing songs and creating original work. Music was more than a hobby—it was his calling.
Darrin also had a sharp sense of fashion, a creative flair, and a deep love for gaming. Whether he was styling an outfit, crafting a new song, or connecting with friends online, he brought joy, humor, and authenticity to everything he did.
He is survived by his beloved son Braylon Sloan and Braylon’s mother, Shionna, of Emporia, VA. He is also survived by his parents Darrin Sloan Sr and Gwendolyn Sloan. His grandparents Pastor Claude and Barbara Roberts of Emporia, VA, and Aida Byrd of Waldorf, MD; his sister Imani Wells and his brother Jaquan Shoates, both of Newport News, VA; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of Darrin’s life will be held at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. May 17, 2025 @ 11:00 AM.
Darrin’s life and memory are beautifully reflected in the scripture:
“Those who have faith in me will never die. Even though they die, they will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” – John 11:25-26
Though his time here was brief, Darrin’s light touched many, and his legacy will live on through the music he made, the love he gave, and the son he leaves behind.
