While in Michigan, Lewis worked for Burroughs Corporation, and after several years of service he returned to Ford Motor Company. During his tenure with Ford Motor Company, Lewis earned his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and his Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Lewis experienced many successful years of service at Ford and after obtaining many of his goals, left Ford Motor company and moved to Virginia where he accepted a position as dean and professor in the Management School of Business at Hampton University in Hampton Virginia. Lewis remained in Hampton Virginia after his retirement. In retirement, Lewis spent a great deal of his time on the water, exercising, going to the gym, playing tennis, enjoying life, and serving as a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, INC.

Lewis was a devout Catholic, and faithfully attended St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Fort Monroe Virginia until the church was forced to discontinue having open services due to COVID 19. He remained faithful with paying his tithes.
