With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth Culton-Smith who peacefully departed this world on November 28, 2024, at the age of 73. She was surrounded by the love of her daughters and grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on January 3, 1951, in Lane, South Carolina, Elizabeth was the daughter of Oneda and John W. Culton Sr. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother “granny” and great-grandmother who treasured her family above all else. Elizabeth had a warmth and wisdom that made everyone feel welcome and loved, and her home was a gathering place for all who sought her guidance, care, and affection.
A woman of great strength and resilience, Elizabeth lived a full life. She was known for crocheting beautiful blankets for her children and grandchildren, home cooked meals and watching some of her favorite shows, such as Andy Griffith, Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason and so many more. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and generosity.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Oneda and John W. Culton Sr, her brother John W. Culton Jr, her sister Marchetta Culton and her son Hassan Larente’ Culton. She is survived by her children, Yolanda Culton (Edwin), Robina Smith, LaDonna Staton, Monica Smith and HathAtlea Smith, her grandchildren, Vanica Smith (Tanisha), Angelica Banks (Milton), Flower Vernon, T’Kayah Hill (Jamison), Terrance Smith, Octavius Smith, Frederick Smith III, Jeremiah Francis, Tiffini Sullivan (Christopher) Richie Staton Jr, Iamme Staton, Ashlee Staton, Lavon Smith, DeSanta Smith, Christian Harvey, Naya Johnson and Adrianna Johnson, lots of great-grandchildren, two brothers, five sisters, and a host of other family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held on December 7, 2024, at 11am, at Smith Brother Funeral Home, where we will celebrate her life and the legacy of the love she leaves behind.
Though her physical presence is no longer with us, Elizabeth’s love, wisdom, and spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
