Obituary

Esther Mitchell Hayes daughter of John and Marilla Mitchell. She was born in Elizabeth City County, Virginia on April 14, 1930. She attended Union Elementary School in Hampton, Virginia, and George P. Phenix High School, Richmond City School of Nursing (Medical College of Virginia). She worked at Central State Hospital Petersburg VA and Petersburg General Hospital. She retired from Hampton General Hospital after 35 years. She was active in the Democratic Party both local and State. She was the Secretary of the Hampton Democratic Women President of the The Phenix Alumni class of 1948. She Joined Queen St. Baptist at an early age and was active in many ministries and chairs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Helen M. Lawson, Jeanette M. Whiting. Survived by Daughter Kalandra Hayes Wooden, granddaughter Jakiah Hayes, and sister. Celestine T. Harris of Watuka Washington, and Brother Boris Mitchell of Hampton Virginia.
