Miss Fannie Francis Wiliams was called home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2024, at the James River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Newport News. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John D. Williams & Mammie Williams; brothers, Robert Williams & John Williams; and sisters, Belle Johnson & Mary Williams.
She was born in Cape Charles, Eastern Shore, VA on November 14, 1926. Her parents moved to the family house at 915 Old Buckroe Road in Hampton when Fannie was in the 2nd grade. She continued her schooling at Phenix Elementary and Phenix High School. After graduating she went to Philadelphia, PA to enroll in Business School. Fannie knew that Hampton was her home so she moved back to the family house. She began her work career at Sears & Roebuck, writing for the Journal & Guide Newspaper, was a typist for Hampton Institute College, and lastly working in the Adjunct General’s Office at the US Army TRADOC Fort Monroe for over 35 years retiring with honors.
It was at Fort Monroe where she met and provided training for this young high schooler and musician, Reginald “Reggie” Fox. Fannie knew that there was something special about Reggie and adopted him as her son. Fannie faithfully attended his graduations, piano recitals, concerts, church services, and family gatherings.
Fannie was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Hampton where she served as Interim Church Secretary and in the choir. Later she joined Queen Street Baptist Church where she participated in the choir, Sunday School, and served her community by visiting and sharing special Bible pamphlets.
She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted 2nd cousin and caregiver, Delores Carter of Hampton; adopted son, Reggie Fox (Antonia and their sons, Joshua & Aaron) of Yorktown; nephew, Marcellus Cooney of Richmond; cousins, Audrey Benson, Eunice Nailing, Sharon Carter (her children Dexter, Marrio, & Curtisha), Melvin Carter, Jr. (Donna and their children, Melvin, III, Deonna, Shandrea), and other family & friends.
