Floyd Lee Obituary

Floyd Michael Lee was born on August 27, 1952, in Hampton, VA to Floyd and Doris Lee.

As the son of a Navy serviceman, he traveled throughout his childhood, living in places such as Morocco, Maine, and Philadelphia, though Hampton always remained home.

Floyd and his brother, Darrell, were among the first to integrate Jane H. Bryan Elementary School. He later attended Kecoughtan High School, where he was a standout basketball player, and went on to study at North Carolina Central University.

Floyd proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, building a distinguished 20-year career as a Mess Sergeant and recruiter. He served honorably in the Gulf War, earning the Bronze Star.

After his military service, Floyd found his calling in food service, eventually leading dining operations for the American Embassy in Baghdad and overseeing food service throughout Iraq. His leadership transformed dining facilities into places of comfort and care for service members far away from home. His warmth and charisma earned recognition from leaders, including former First Lady Jill Biden, as well as honors from USA Today and Ebony Magazine.

In retirement, Floyd devoted himself to his family and faith. He took immense pride in his son and grandchildren, who were his world, and moved closer to them in his later years to cherish every moment together. Guided by his love for God and Jesus Christ, he lived with purpose and compassion. Known for his love of music and dancing, and his signature cowboy hats and boots, Floyd brought joy, style, and warmth to all who knew him.

Floyd passed away on March 11, 2026, surrounded by love.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sadaf Lee; his granddaughters, Yara and Noelle Lee; his nephew, Justin Lee; and a host of family and friends. He is reunited with his parents, Floyd and Doris Lee, and his brother, Darrell Lee.

Floyd’s life was defined by love, service, and connection. He often left others with the words that reflected his big heart:

“Has anyone told you they love you today?”
