George Cunningham

A star fell from heaven on July 28, 1939, and was named George Cunningham, affectionally known as "Boo". This shining star was blessed with loving parents, Mr.Bennie and Martha Cunningham, in the Bloomingdale community located in Kinqstree, South Carolina. George was the fourth of eight siblings, Bennie, James, Elizabeth, Willie, Martha, Lillie, Jonnie, and Linda.

George was reared in Kingstree, South Carolina and was educated in Williamsburg County public schools. The bible reads in Genesis 2:18 The Lord God also said, it is not good for man to be alone... George must have been in the spirit on the Lord's Day because on June 28, 1958, after graduating from Thomlinson High School in Kingstree, SC; George married his sweetheart and soul mate - Jannie Cunningham and enjoyed 66 years of marriage. From this union were born four children: Benjamin, Georgette, Ken, and Flecia. After relocating to the Hampton Roads, Virginia area in 1980, George and Jannie joined Miracle Temple Baptist Church where George served as a faithful Trustee for over two decades.

George was an ardent gardener growing peanuts, watermelon, snap peas and other vegetables for his family and friends. He was a lover of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Oftentimes he would have his children splitting snap peas while watching baseball In addition to his horticulture skills, he enjoyed helping people improve their health and served the Hampton Roads communities and congregations as a distributor for a major natural health product company founded by his longtime friend, Dr. J.L. Johnson for over 30 years.

George Cunningham, 85, heard the Lord call his name and transitioned from these mundane shores to be with the Lord in perennial harmony on October 19, 2024.

George was preceded in death by three brothers: Bennie, James, and Willie and one son: Benjamin.

George leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Jannie, siblings: Elizabeth, Martha (Warren), Lillie, Jonnie, and Linda (Shelton); three children: Georgette, Ken (Ellen), and Felecia; five grandchildren: Joshua Sr. (Khaliah), Danielle, Darion, Jared, and Jada; three great-grandchildren: Joshua Jr., Beersheba, and Kane; along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, congregants and dear friends.
