Isaiah 40:6-8: "All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: but the word of our God shall stand forever."
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Geraldine Mae Adams at the age of 84, on May 22, 2024. A treasured daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Geraldine was a beautiful spirit, and a cherished member of the Zion Baptist Church community. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker, enriching the lives of her children, grandchildren and friends while contributing to her community with a joyful heart to serve them. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Geraldine was born in Martinsville, Virginia in 1939, the daughter of Roy and Susie Cooke Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Curtis Adams Sr., her sisters Virginia Niblett, Ethel Penn, Vera Holland, Nannie Flood, Lutisha Hairston, Irene Smith and her brothers Ferdinand Smith, John Smith, Willie Smith, Thomas Smith and Everett Smith and Ainsley Smith. Her only surviving sister Lessie Holland (Abraham) continues her family’s legacy.
James and Geraldine’s love story began in the beginning of July and they were married at the end of July. Together for 64 years, they traveled as a Military family and after retirement they made Hampton, Virginia their home while raising their children, Sandra Purcell (William), Julia Vaughan (Andrew), Janice Burt and James Adams Jr. As a reflection of her love and dedication towards her family, a fond memory mirrors Geraldine’s incredible home cooking filled with love and flavors that always brought joy to all of her family and friends. Furthermore, let it be noted that her fried chicken was delicious, and she turned every meal into a cherished celebration. As a family, they loved sharing these home cooked dining experiences with friends and loved ones.
As a devoted mother, Geraldine's greatest joy in life was raising her children. She poured her heart into every moment, creating a nurturing and loving environment filled with love. Her children's lives are a testament to her dedication, love, and unyielding spirit. She shared with them how to find beauty in themselves, live by their own virtues, and be and do their best in life.
A beautiful grandmother who sprinkled stardust on her grandchildren’s lives as a caregiver and always showering them with her love. Tvonia Thomas, Chanel Murray, James Adams III, Aneissa Ingram (Donnelle), Courtney Murray and Colton Adams.
In addition to a wide circle of friends, cousins, and extended family, Geraldine's spirit lives on…. “God created us to be spiritual beings, with Him as our life Source.” Rest in peace, Geraldine. You are so loved and will be so deeply missed.
