Gloria Mungin Morring was born May 30, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina. She took her last breath May 1, 2025 in Hampton, Virginia - just shy of her 86th birthday. She was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Janie Mungin.
Gloria was educated in the South Carolina public school system. She chose to marry early and raise a family while traveling and living in Japan, Spain, and Germany. Finally, she and her family moved back to the United States, making Hampton, VA their home.
Gloria ('Disco Glo') was a culinary genius and Self Made Chef. She loved to cook and create recipes that were difficult for most to duplicate. She would say, " You just know what you know," or " I know what I want it to taste like." She was also well known for her catering and wedding cakes.
Gloria was a key employee for the Brass Rail Eatery, Langley Air Force Base. She was also a supervisor and head pastry chef with Gourmet Services at Hampton University. Between the two she served the food service industry for 25 years.
She was an voracious reader of romance novels written by black authors and the Bible (not necessarily in that order). Gloria had a kind heart and would not allow anyone to be without a roof over their head or be without something to eat. If it was within her power she would make a way. In her last months she would tell those who visited her "how important it was for them to be seen by their doctor. "Don't wait until it's too late." It was Gloria's mission to impart wisdom whenever the opportunity presented itself and have fun.
Gloria loved the Lord with every breath and every cell of her being. She would start and end her day in prayer, and read Bible verses throughout the day. She believed that she was a child of God and lived accordingly. Nothing (not even her prognosis) would to change that.
Gloria is remembered as a loving mother, a faithful friend, a wonderful grandmother (Grammy), aunt and a proud child of God. She was the youngest of thirteen brothers and sisters. They have all preceded her in death.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: Her four daughters and son-in-law - Willita Morring, Michele and (Victor)Roach, Karla Morring and Karen Morring-Golden. Her eight grands: Erin James, Khorren Spriggs, Lauren Lawson, Aron and (Tasha) Sargent, Jordan Roach, Zachary Roach, Aline da Costa and Lyric da Costa. Her eight great grands: Ricardo Flores III, Kirsten James, Kameron James, Kaydin James, Jalia Johnson, Julius Spriggs, Caesar Spriggs, Penelope Spriggs, and Thomas Sargent.
