Gregory Nelson (Greg) Crafton, 65, of Hampton, VA passed on to his eternal home on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Sentara CarePlex in Hampton, VA. Born to Charles Eugene and Patsy Ruth (O'Connor) Crafton on September 19, 1957 he graduated from Brookfield R-3 High School in 1977. In November 1978 he enlisted in the United States Navy and reported in January 1978 to basic training in San Diego, CA. Greg enjoyed traveling the world with service onboard the USS Nimitz, the USS Iwo Jima and the USS John F. Kennedy. Much of his career was served at NAS Norfolk, NAS Patuxent River Maryland,NAS Oceana areas of Virginia where he met and married his wife Tracey M. (Tillman) Crafton on December 17, 1988. He retired from service in 1998. Greg then worked for Walworth Publishing, in Brookfield and the Missouri Department of Corrections at both the Chillicothe Correctional Center and Western Correctional Center in Cameron, MO. He was also a hotdog food vendor in Newport News and Hampton.
Greg was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post #4557 of Brookfield and Post #3219 of Hampton, VA. Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman spending much of his free time in the woods or on a local lake. He was preceded in death by of his both parents.
Surviving are his wife Tracey, of the home; Two sisters, Lisa (Ed) Heckman of Kansas City, MO and Alice Kirtley of Salisbury, MO; nieces, Mikal (Gary) Monnig of Smithville, MO and Emily Kirtley of Hale, MO; nephew, Jacob (Amber) Heckman of Kansas City, MO and mother in law Meredith Ramsay-Lester of Hampton,VA; several great nieces and other relatives around the U.S. Dual services will be held at a later date both in Hampton and at the Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO with the VFW Post #4550 honor guard of Brookfield, the United States Patriot Guard and the Missouri Department of Corrections Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Brookfield VFW Post #4550, the Hampton, VA VFW post #6602 or any Patriot Guard unit.
