Gwendolyn Louise Toombs transitioned peacefully at home with her beloved family by her side on July 8, 2023. Gwen as we fondly called her, was born June 12, 1953 to the late George W and Erline V Jackson in Thomaston, Alabama.
She was educated in Hampton City school system and graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1971. She continued her education graduating from Peninsula Business College, attending Air Force Institute of Technology, followed by obtaining her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management from Hampton University earning the distinction of Magna Cum Laude. Gwen retired from the Department of Army as a Program Manager of Security Assistance Training Field Activity Division (SAFA) after 30 years of dedicated service.
Gwen was successful in all her endeavor's and was dedicated to mastering various skills such as crossword puzzles and word searches. She was also a avid reader, loved to sew, crochet, and knit. She loved spending time with her family, especially game night and cook outs. Gwen had a strong will, sense of loyalty and keen intellect. Her genuine love for family was especially noted when it came to her grandchildren, whom she loved and always took extreme pride in there accomplishments.
Gwen attended every Football & Basketball game, cheerleading competitions, talent shows and parent /
teacher conference's. Gwen was proceeded in death by her parents George W. and Erline V. Jackson. Left to cherish her
memories are her only Daughter Catrice (Reese) Lee (Jeffrey)-Hampton, Va; grandchildren :Jeremy E.
Lee, Quinton A. Lee, and Aleisha L. Lee; great-grand child: Jacob Lee
Gwen is survived by one sister Jacquelyn A . Larkin Bishop (Dennis) -Hampton, Va;three brothers: George R.Jackson-Hampton, Va, Michael A. Jackson-Newport News, Va, Brian K. Jackson(Tammy)-
Richmond, Va. and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Her example of love, strength and commitment will serve us well. Tenderly we treasure the past, with memories that will always last.
