Herbert Turner, 76, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024. Born on November 29, 1948, he was the son of the late Ira O. Manning and Mary J. Turner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Denise Turner, and his brother, Curtis Brunson.
Herbert leaves behind the love of his life, Carleisa Williamson, a son Michael Williamson, and a daughter Crystal Williams (Anthony). He was the proud grandfather of Jasmyne Tolliver and Jaiden McGhee (whom he affectionately called “his main man).” He also leaves behind two sisters, Cheryl and Linda Turner, two brothers Bruce Turner (Shirley) and Timothy Musawwir, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Herbert cherished his family and friends, and the legacy of those relationships will live on through the generations.
Having worked as a commercial fisherman for more than three decades, Herbert had a great love for both the sea and for seafood… crabs especially. He always enjoyed a good meal with those closest to him. A man of simple pleasures, Herbert enjoyed watching TV, playing chess, and participating in family gatherings where his warmth and humor filled the room.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Herbert, and depending on how he knew you, you were met with his unique character. Herbert had a signature phrase when someone said, “I love you”; he would say, “I love you more, always have, always will.” He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
