Howard “Buster” Junior Lewis was a longtime resident of Hampton, VA. He was born on February 13, 1937, in Yorktown, VA, to the late Howard W. Lewis, and Margorie O. (Carter) Lewis. He departed this life unexpectedly on February 12, 2022, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, in Hampton, VA.
Howard received his education at York County Training School, in Yorktown, VA. After high school, Howard joined the United States Air Force on April 27, 1955, and served until March 10, 1961.
He developed a passion for Heating and Air Conditioning. He started his own business in 1971 called “Lewis Heating and Air Conditioning”. During his forty-five years of illustrious service, he had hundreds of satisfied customers.
Howard believed in mentoring and helping his community. Throughout the years, he has employed numerous young men in the neighborhood to mentor and provide them with trade skills to assist in their future development. Howard was a loyal and Lifetime member of the I.B.P.O. Elks Old Capital Excelsior Mizpah Lodge #4. He enjoyed traveling to sporting events and was a faithful Dallas Cowboy fan. He also was an avid pinochle player who competed in national tournaments. One of his latest passions was his interest and research into his family’s genealogy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Helen F. (Jenkins) Lewis. Also predeceased by his four sisters and two brothers: Alice Wade, Delores Jackson, Salena Bennett, Delilah Frazier, Theodore Carter, and Benny Lewis. He leaves behind four loving children that will continue to carry on his legacy. His son, Michael Lewis of Hampton, VA and three daughters, Tonya Felix of Randallstown, MD, Yvonne Poulson (Curtis) of Suffolk, VA and Janea’ Lewis-Lee of Tysons, VA. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Christopher Jones of Hewitt, TX and Jada Lee of Tysons, VA. He also leaves behind three sisters Audrey Edlow of Newport News, VA, Bertha Gladden of Oceanside, CA, and Wanda Spratley (David) of Williamsburg, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
