Mr.James Thomas Boone, son of the late Jimmie Pope and Lillie Mac Boone was born September 14, 1961, in Hampton, Va. He attended Hampton City Schools and was a graduate of Phoebus High School, class of 1979. He also played football and baseball. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Grays Mission Baptist Church, Hampton, VA.
James started working at an early age while attending school. He worked as a paperboy and at Fast Brothers, Peoples Drugstore, and the Phoebus bakery. Mr.Boone joined the US Navy after graduating from high school before he was medically discharged. He went on to work at W.T Phillips Confectionery Store and as a heavy equipment operator for several construction companies. He was an active member of Club United, Phoebus, VA, where he also was a DJ. Mr.Boo loved music. As a result of his generous spirit and pleasant personality, he was loved by many. He quietly departed this life Sunday, June 14, 2026, at home in Hampton, VA. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmie Pope and mother Lillie Mae Boone.
Before his illness, Boo worked with his cousin, Darryl Brown at his Lawn Care Service. This was a job he truly loved. Boo also loved to cook. Some of his favorites were liver and onions, beer butt Cornish hens, stuffed peppers, and so many dishes.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his siblings: two brothers Maurice Boone Sr. (Donna) of Hampton, VA., Antonio Boone/caregiver of Stafford, VA and a sister/ caregiver Felicia Boone (Earl) of Hampton, Va., three nieces India Stephens of Newport News, VA., Antoinique Boone of Hampton, VA., and Zippora Boone/ caregiver (Ricky) of Hampton, Va. four nephews of Hampton Va: Ernest Carmichael, Brandon Carmichael, Donte’ S. Boone/ caregiver (Uriecka) and Maurice Boone Jr., two great nephews, six great nieces and many more honorary nieces, nephews, and his (249) friends from Phoebus who he considered family.
