James Jones III Obituary


Deacon James Bartholomew Jones III was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 31st, 2022, at 3:33 pm. “Jimmy” was a native of Hampton, Virginia (Phoebus). He graduated from Pembroke High School in 1969. He was preceded in death by his father James B. Jones Jr., MotherMarie ElizabethJones, brother Raymond SeldonJones, and niece Desiree Reaux. James gave his life to Christ at a young age while attending Zion Baptist Church (Phoebus,) where he sang in the choir. He also sang in Antioch’s Baptist Church (Buckroe.) After reuniting with his son, Joshua Paul, he joined the Church of The Promised Land, the headquarters Cathedral of Churches of The Promised Land, PLM, Inc. Several years later King James returned to Hampton and joined the House of God Worship Center (Churches of The Promised Land, PLM, Inc.) where he was ordained a deacon The Lord’sChurch in unbroken lines of Apostolic Succession. Most recently, he joined New Life AME Zion Church on Queen St in Hampton, Va.“King James” was affectionately known as Jimmy, Pops, Popadop, Jimmy Jam, Shimmy Shay, and Little Jimmy of little Chicago. King James (Jimmy) is survived by his son Joshua Paul Logan (Vonda), Godsons, Roland Crawley, Vonley Thompson, Goddaughters Patrice Freeman, Misty Crawley, ValarieClark, Gena Warfield, Kristina Wallace, Lisa Jones, Linette Logan, and Renee Williams. Sisters, Barbara Reaux of Richmond. VA, Rose Maria Jones and Cheryl Jones(Daniel) of Hampton, VA. Grandchildren Joshua P. LoganII, Jonathan Logan, Caleb Clark, Sebastian McClary, Ravon Crawley, Devine Crawley, Tatiana Crawley, Darryl Crawley “DJ” and Aaliyah Crawley. Special cousins, YusufShakir “JD,” Raymond B. Anthony III, Cameo A. Anthony, Tony Pugh, Sheila Pugh, and Zephaniah Pugh. Patriarch Uncle Milton O. Anthony and Matriarch Queen Mother Elaine D. Logan. Nephews, Darryl Ward of Washington, DC, Anthony I. Bivins of Hampton, VA, Curtis R. Scriven of Hampton, VA, Joshua G. Scriven, Hampton, VA. Nieces, Maria C. Scriven and Shayla E. Scriven of Hampton, VA.Special friends, Patricia Freeman, Rosetta Crawley, Claudia Womack “BFF”, Dwight Osborne “Black Bird”, Rita and Jimmy Robinson, and a host of other family and friends. Jimmy enjoyed being around his family and friends. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch waving to his family and friends as they drove by and often stopped to reminisce about old times. He was the life of the party and always kept it REAL. Jimmy loved everyone and we will always cherish his memories. King James was always sharing words of wisdom, and vital nuggets of knowledge with our youth, and always concluded his encounters with those he loved and cherished by encouraging them to “Keep the Faith!”
