Jeffrey Arnold Saunders

Jeffrey Arnold Saunders was born on April 15,1967, to the late Jerry Allen and Gloria Jean Delaney (Cookie), in James City County, Williamsburg, VA. He transitioned to eternal life to be with the LORD GOD, on March 19,2022, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA.

Jeff graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, VA. And entered the United States Navy.  As with every task, Jeff thrived and was the recipient of the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy “E”, and Marksman M16A1 Rifle awards as he served as an Electrical/Mechanical Equipment Repairman.

Jeff loved life!  He was always willing to help anyone that asked and would give you the shirt off his back just to make sure you were happy.  He enjoyed all the time he spent with family, riding to Buckroe Beach “people watching” and driving down Mercury Blvd, just so he could show you all the local spots!  When he knew that his niece, “Kyndal” was coming he would make preparations to have “ribs” on the grill for her, because she loved the way he fixed them.  We would laugh until we had tears in our eyes talking about the old days, and the new days to come.  Like when he was younger, he would jump up and down on the sofa and say, “I’m black and I’m proud, say it LOUDER NOW!”  From the very beginning of life, he loved music, dancing, and fast cars!  When we would visit, all he wanted you to do, was take him to the grocery store to pick up a few items and to make sure he had cigarettes and a cold one before you left.  Because of his big heart, warm smile, and his humble Spirit, we would give him a few extra bucks to put in his pocket, because he was the type of person that would never ask for it.

Although Jeff never married, he loved looking for a “wife.” Whether he was a t the Buckroe Beach in Hampton or at Beth’el Baptist Church in Bowling Green, VA, he would ask about the women just to see who was available so that he wouldn’t step on anyone’s toes, but also checking on how much baggage they would come with so he could decide if he should pursue her.  He “loved people”, but he knew when it was more baggage than he wanted to take on in a relationship, so he would just wait until the next one came by.

Jeff leave behind to cherish his memory his son, Derrick Jeffrey Reger (Rhode Island), his brother, Troy Orell Delaney (Melissa), and his sister, Leslie Arnette Wright (Curtis) and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, cousins, friends, and the caring staff at the Hampton VA Medical Center.
