Karen Denise Brown

Karen Brown, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026 at the age of 71 years old. Karen was preceded in death by Patricia Gloria Coats (mother), Bernard Brown (father), Jimmy Coats (stepfather), Charlotte Beckett (grandmother), Stephanie Brown (sister), Eric Brown (brother), and Jaquan Brown (grandson).

 Born in Hampton, Virginia January 1, 1955 to parents Gloria (Patricia) Coats and Bernard Brown. She dedicated her life to helping others, she worked for years as an Administrator at the Friends of the Homeless Shelter assisting others with food, clothes, jobs, child care, and housing placement. Karen moved on from there to become Senior Property Consultant and Assistant Manager at Somerset at Town Center, helping seniors maintain their way of life. Her favorite things to do were read the Bible, crossword puzzles, and shopping at Marshalls.

 Karen is survived by her loving husband Anthony (Tony) Bushnell, children; Cassandra Custis, Keyla Adams (James), Rochandra Dunlap (Howard Sr.), grandchildren; Andrea Maxwell (Anthony), Kasuan Brown, Kearra Easter (Marquis), Amarion Custis, Madison Dunlap, Howard Dunlap Jr., Royal Dunlap, Maddox Dunlap; great grandchildren; Lauren Brown, Cassidy Easter, and Marlon Easter, siblings; Paula Wright, Wanda Brown, Darryl Brown (Josette), Gary Brown, and Lisa Brown, and a host of aunts and uncles.

 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 11 am at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23663. The repass will follow immediately after at Beau Brummell’s, 2623 Shell Rd, Hampton, VA 23661.
