Kenneth Lyle Hammer Sr (Ken), 75, of Hampton, VA, passed away on January 9th, 2024 from a ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
Ken was born on November 8th, 1948 to Larry Lyle Hammer and Myrna Hammer, nee. Haynes in Allegan, MI. He started working at a very young age, starting with a paper route that allowed him to buy his own bike; and he had one of the strongest work ethics around.
In 1965, Ken met Susan Blaisdell, and they wed in June of 1967, going on to have 3 children, Kenny Hammer Jr, Dawn Kellogg, nee. Hammer and Cassandra Simpson, nee. Hammer.
Ken was a force of nature, and wildly determined. He didn’t like being told he couldn’t do something. He worked hard to provide for his family. He dedicated 32 years to Chrysler, retiring in 1999.
Ken loved cars and traded them often. When the internet got popular he loved his computer and playing Texas Hold’em and poker online. He also loved to internet shop and was constantly ordering things, often when they weren’t needed. He was also a passionate Golfer and could often be found on a golf course when he wasn’t at home.
Anyone who knew Ken knew that he was a loving father and husband and a good friend to many. All that knew him, loved him and adored his great sense of humor, handsome mustache, and slick dance moves.
Ken was predeceased by his father Larry Lyle Hammer, his mother Myrna Hammer, nee. Haynes, Sister Carolyn Hammer, Brothers Richard Hammer (Marie Hammer), Terry Hammer (Nancy Hammer), Larry Hammer (Becky Hammer), Carl Hammer, sister-in-law Sandra Hammer, nee. Snyder and Daughter Dawn Kellogg, nee. Hammer.
Ken is survived by wife Susan Hammer, nee. Blaisdell, children Kenneth Lyle Hammer Jr., and Cassandra Simpson, nee. Hammer., son-in-law Sean Simpson, grand children Karissa Castellanos, nee. Kellogg (José Castellanos), Kevin Michael Kellogg, Caidann Simpson, Leigham Simpson and great grand son Cristian Castellanos, brother Robert Hammer (Cary Hammer) and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a Memorial Service Wednesday January 17th at 11AM at Smith Brothers Funeral Home (545 E. Mercury Blvd in Hampton, Virginia) and a Celebration of Life to be announced this spring in Michigan.
