Lonnie A McNeil's sunrise was on February 12, 1945. Lonnie spent his formative years in Hampton, Virginia, where his love for fishing and the water first took root.
Lonnie is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda Wilson McNeil; daughter, Lisa McNeil; son, Lonnie McNeil Jr.; two grandson's Jodey McNeil and Adrian McNeil; his brother Fred Cook Jr.; and his sister's, Fredrica Cook Williams and Cynthia
Cook Forman.
There were several people that were instrumental in Lonnie's upbringing; his biological mother, Aurelia Cook; his adoptive parents, Arguster and Gertrude McNeil; and his grandparents, John and Julia McNeil. His grandparents always held a special place in his heart. Lonnie inherited his talent for finances, respect for his elders, and a strong work ethic from his grandfather, whom he referred to as "Daddy"
Lonnie met the love of his life, Linda Wilson, at Phenix High School. A year after graduation, they married. Lonnie attended Norfolk State University for a brief time. He then worked a job or two before being hired as a fitters' pipe helper at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. Lonnie attended night school while working full-time and raising a family, in preparation for settling into the perfect job to utilize his math skills, as a designer. He remained a designer for 40 years, with the shipyard, until his retirement.
