Louise Williams Canady

Louise W. Canady, age 97 years, 6 months and 3 days, passed away peacefully at her home in Hampton Virginia on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was born on March 3, 1925 to the late Willie Mae Williams in Lakeland Florida.

She was united in holy matrimony to James W. Canady on July 25, 1942. She was a military wife who enjoyed traveling with her family to various locations during her husband’s career. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, taking walks and dogs.

Along with her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband and two daughters, Izella C. Ward and Patricia A. Barksdale. She is survived by her daughter, Ophelia Shirley Nixon of the home and son, James W. (Dorcella) Canady, Jr. of Williamsburg VA. She also leaves to cherish her memory 5 grandsons – Anthony, Mandowl and DeVonn Nixon, all of Ohio, Mark Wardof Chicago, IL and Ben Barksdale of Detroit, MI, one granddaughter, Gabrielle Barksdale-Taylor of Detroit, MI, eight great granddaughters, three great grandsons, one great-great granddaughter, one great-great grandson and a host of relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton VA.

Visitation will also be held from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton Virginia on Thursday, September 15, 2022, with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. by Father John Grace.

Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton Virginia following the service.
