On Monday morning, December 16, 2024, God called our beloved Mary Agnes McCarthy home for her much needed rest. Agnes was born, January 30, 1929, in Waynesboro, Virginia to the late Percy and Annie Blair.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Henry and son, Gary McCarthy. Her siblings that preceded her in death were her brothers, Percy Blair and Samuel Blair and her sisters Emmalou Blair and Charlotte Moore. And from her husband Henry’s family, Agnes was preceded in death by all of her in-laws.
Agnes was a doting daughter to her parents and a particularly good student athletically and academically, while being the captain of her basketball team, Agnes was also Valedictorian of her senior class. After graduation from Rosenwald High School in Waynesboro, Virginia,
Agnes attended cosmetology school that contributed to the beauty and style she gave her family, friends & customers for many years. Agnes also developed a love for sewing so much so that she retired as a seamstress at Gloria Manufacturing in Newport News, Virginia. She also worked on the cafeteria staff at Benjamin Syms Jr. High School in Hampton, Virginia. Agnes looked forward to her annual shopping trips to Pennsylvania and Broadway shows in New York!
Agnes is survived by her three remaining children. Sons Jock McCarthy of Hampton, VA, Keith (Katie) McCarthy of Hampton, VA & daughter Sharon (Dino) Young of Highland Mills, NY. Grandchildren, Candyce Young, Keith (Jomayra) McCarthy, Jr., Veronica (Sean) Potter & DJ Young. Great grandchildren, Sharah Melvin, Aiyannah Potter, Sean Potter, Carmen McCarthy & D’Lorenzo Thorpe. Two close nieces, Elizabeth Perry, Joann Ecoe and many more nieces, nephews, and a host of family, friends and acquaintances.
We will miss our beloved Agnes, Aggie & Auntie for all that she brought to our lives with what we wanted & needed! And with all of that, we loved her deeply!
