Mollie Lou E. Harmon, 90 years of age, passed on Thursday morning, October 24, 2024 at Sentara Hospital in Hampton, VA.
John
Mollie was born on August 2, 1934 in Powellsville, North Carolina to the late John and Mary Sessoms. She was the third of four children, who have preceded her in death. Mollie graduated from C. G. White High School.
Mollie married Arthur Harmon Jr. in 1955 in Windsor, NC to which three daughters were born from this union (the eldest, Charlotte R. Harmon, now deceased). As a devoted wife and mother, she raised her family while living all over the world, supporting her husband who served in the United States Air Force. She also raised her nephew who was like a son to her, Ronnie J.
Sessoms (now deceased).
Mollie was a woman of many talents. In high school, her sewing skills earned her first place in a state competition, as well as a paid substitute teacher position while her teacher, at the time, was out of the classroom. She also learned ceramics while living in Okinawa Japan. Her natural talents in the arts expanded even further into literature and in the performing arts as a wonderful singer.
As a natural leader, Mollie was a supervisor for housekeeping operations at Coliseum Park nursing home in Hampton, VA. There she would dedicate 30 years, proudly serving her community until her retirement in 2013. She was also a long time member of First Church of Newport News (Baptist).
Mollie was the matriarch of her family and cherished by many. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend, always thinking of and caring for others. Mollie was an amazing cook and created her own special holiday traditions; her favorite of them all being Christmas. With love and joy she would offer a meal to anyone who entered her home and made them feel like family.
Mollie Harmon leaves to cherish her husband, Arthur J. Harmon Jr., her two daughters, Stephanie E. Norris and Wanda S. Harmon; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
