Nelson Woodrow Haskins transitioned and gained his wings on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 with his wife and care team by his side. Nelson was brought into this life on June 17, 1939 in Isle of Wight to the late Samuel L. Haskins and Easter Eley Haskins. Nelson was the middle child of 9 children born to this union. Nelson accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at the age of 9 and was baptized on September 25, 1948. He graduated from Isle of Wight Training School in 1956. Shortly after graduating, Nelson joined the United States Army where he served for 3 years. After leaving the Army Nelson relocated to Hampton, VA and later settled in his favorite place (his home) in Garden Village. Over the years, Nelson worked as a Welder and Welding Instructor for Newport News Shipbuilding and continued to become supervisor of Pipe Services at Hampton University where he then retired. Even after retirement, Nelson continued to do things he loved: playing cards, riding motorcycles. Family and helping others were a big part of who he was. He left to carry on his legacy his wife of 47 years, Ida R. Haskins; children- Marvin and Terri Haskins; step-son, William Randolph; his grandchildren: Cherrelle, Niya, Terrell, and Erica; Siblings: Alvin (Annette), Ruth, and James (Louise); 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. May all the good memories he created for us be used to fill the void in our hearts.
