Rev. Dr.Brenda McDonald Obituary

Rev. Dr. Brenda Jackson McDonald of Hampton, VA passed away on March 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

 

A native of Roper, North Carolina she was born on August 8, 1947 to the late Minnie Freeman Jackson and James H. Jackson.

 

Her primary education was fulfilled in the Washington County School system in Roper, North Carolina.

 

Secondary education completed was at North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Graduate education studies at East Carolina University, and Hampton University in Public Health Administration and Gerontological Nursing respectfully. Dr. McDonald was nationally certified in Gerontological nursing by the American Nurses Association.

 

Her theological preparation began at Virginia Union University School of Theology and Richmond Virginia Seminary where she received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1992. Post graduate study completed at Christian Leadership School of Theology now Beacon University in Columbus, Georgia in 2000. Dr. McDonald considers her highest degree of that being a B.A., Born Again Christian in Christ Jesus.

 

She was licensed to preach at the former Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in 1989 and was ordained to preach the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in 1994 at Baptist Miracle Temple Church in Edenton, North Carolina.

 

Dr. McDonald served as Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church - Hampton from its inception in 1995 until 2017 when she retired. Dr. McDonald was one of the first female Baptist pastors in the Tidewater region.

 

Dr. McDonald retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia and New Horizons Regional Education Center after 30 plus years of service. She served as adjunct professor at the Hampton Campus of Richmond Virginia Seminary, seminar facilitator, teacher, and preacher across the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Atlantic Seaboard.

 

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents and close cousin Anthony Freeman.

 

Rev. Dr. McDonald is remembered by her three wonderful children; James, J. Breneige, John II (Samantha); two loving grandsons; Kwinton and Kailen, close cousin Ronald Freeman (Charlene), and her Second Baptist Church-Hampton family & friends.
