Roddie Winston Reese was born on January 12, 1940, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Willie James & Olive Mae Reese, the third of four sons. Early in life Bro. Reese accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Macedonia Baptist Church where his father and mother served faithfully until death. After graduating Lucy C. Laney High School in 1959, Bro Reese moved to New York. Anyone who knew him could tell he loved everything about "The Big Apple."
An avid golfer in his early 20's, Bro Reese, along with two of his brothers, joined a group called Mag & that was active for over 30 years. Working in the New York "Garment District" was his career until he retired. Bro Reese continued to do what he loved best once he moved to Hampton. Buying and selling finds at The Flea Market in Newport News was the perfect hobby for him which took him on excursions back and forth to New York until his health failed.
Eight years ago, Bro Reese met and married his wife, Gerlie Bellamy. They both attended Galilee Baptist Church where he served in the Men's Ministry as treasurer for the Men's Day Program and was an active member until he was no longer able to attend due to his illness and the pandemic. Bro Reese enjoyed cooking and serving breakfast at Galilee during different events and programs.
Bro. Reese loved to spend time with family and friends. He loved to dance and loved life. He was very proud of his two daughters, Kendra and Tyrise Smith who live in New York. Bro Reese also embraced his bonus family with Gerlie of three sons, a daughter, and grandchildren. During his illness, his wife, Gerlie, was faithful attending to his needs and was there supporting him and kept his family members informed until his passing
Bro Reese was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Olive Mae Reese, his two brothers, Sanford Gregory Reese, and Kenneth Lee Reese. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of eight years, Gerlie, two daughters, Kendra, and Tyrise Smith of New York, one stepdaughter Melisia Bowman (Morris) of Suwanee, Georgia; three stepsons Lawrence Reddick (Kimberly) of Florida; Sherman Reddick (Juanita) of Florida; William Reddick (Deborah) of Hampton, Virginia; one brother James D.
