Roger Bandy

Roger Spencer Bandy was called home to be with the Lord on
August 29, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Sentara CarePlex
Hospital, Hampton, Virginia. Born on November 16, 1946, in
Elizabeth City, Virginia to the late Leroy Bandy, Sr. and Martha
Christine Bandy, Roger grew up a Buckroe Beach native in Hampton,
Virginia. Roger was a source of warmth and kindness and to know
him was truly a blessing.
Roger completed his education at the Virginia School for the
Deaf and Blind. He went on to work as a food service worker at the
Fort Monroe Officers’ Club in 1965 when he was only 18 years old. In
1977, with 12 years of experience under his belt, he was acknowledged
as being an excellent employee in the Fort Monroe newspaper, The
Casemate. As a deaf man, Roger said that, though he could read lips,
he felt that his excellence at his position came through closely
observing those around him. He retired after 34 years of service as a
cook in 1999.
Roger enjoyed and loved spending time with family and watching
old TV shows. He was known for always putting money in the hands
of the children around him. He had a true passion for nice cars. He
was also the biggest wrestling fan you would ever meet.
Roger was preceded in death by both parents, Leroy Bandy, Sr.
and Martha Christine Bandy, brother Leroy Bandy, Jr., and three
sisters Joyce Lilly, Thelma Adkinson, and Rosetta Urquhart.
Roger is survived by his brothers William James Lilly (Mae) and
Stanley Lilly along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
