Rolland Williamson Obituary

Rolland Leonard Williamson, 75, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Norfolk Sentara Hospital. He was born in Marion, South Carolina on November 21, 1947 to the late Woodrow and Doris Williamson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John T. Williamson.

Rolland graduated from Terrell’s Bay High School in Centenary, SC.  He continued his education at South Carolina Area Trade School in Demark, SC before enlisting into the Army, retiring as a Military Police 1st Sergeant.  He always had a quest for knowledge and through the years he continued his education to improve his craft in welding, which included an Associate Degree from Thomas Nelson Community College in Occupational Health and Safety.  He retired from the Newport News Shipyard as a Welder Foreman.

Rolland loved God, his family, and friends. During childhood, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marion, SC.  He has been a dedicated and faithful member of Zion Baptist Church for more than 40 years.  During this time, he served in various ministries to include:  Men’s Ministry, Ushers, Finance, Pantry, Willing Workers, Senior Choir, and Male Chorus.  Rolland was a Zion Baptist Church Trustee, a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the J. Dett Marshburn Scholarship Committee.   He earned Zion Baptist Church’s “Man of the Year” Award in 2017.  He loved Zion, but most of all he loved being of service to others.  He especially loved serving the elderly. You would often see him taking the sick to doctor’s appointments and visiting them in the hospital.  That was truly his Ministry. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports and especially supporting Hampton University sports as an active member of the Boosters Club.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of the Freemasons.

Rolland leaves to cherish his fond memories, a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Jean Swinton Williamson of Hampton; two daughters, Toshia Walters (Anthony) of Chesapeake, VA and Tiffany Hart (Robert) of Bowie, MD; brother Willie Mack Williamson (Louise) of Marion, SC, sisters-in-law Flossie Williamson of Marion, SC, Vina Owens (Roy) Mullins, SC, brother-in-law Henry Swinton (Mary) of Mullins, SC, mother-in-law, Esther Leonard of the home.   Four grandsons: Anthony “AJ” Walters Jr., Cameron Walters, Michael Hart and Christian Hart, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is deeply appreciative of your many acts of kindness, prayers and words of consolation during this period of bereavement.
