Samuel Ervin Spragans

Mr. Samuel E. Spragans, better known as “Sam”, 73, of Newport News, VA departed this life on March 13, 2025. He was born March 11, 1952, to Clyde E. and Esther M. Spragans.

Sam was educated in the Newport News School System. After graduating, he did a short term in the US Navy. Sam went on to marry Vanessa Oliver and became a step-father to her daughter and the two had a son. The family moved to California to begin a new life. After some time, he and Vanessa divorced and Sam took on a new wife, Diaziree Oxley and the two had three children. Sam eventually left California separating from his wife to move back home to Newport News where he began a career as a security guard for Old Dominion Security, Newport News where her worked for several years. Sam was a dedicated fan of the “San Francisco 49ers”. He loved football, watching games and spending time with his brothers.

Sam was preceded in death by his beloved parents Clyde and Esther Spragans, Sr. His brothers: Clyde Spragans Jr. Craig Warren, and Sisters: Lena Spragans and Sarah Oliver. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Diaziree Oxley Spragans. Sons: Shawan, Demetrius, and Dameon Spragans. Daughters: Brittney Spragans (Curtis), and Cornelia Oliver. Grandchildren: Briauna, Jeremiah, Destiny, Josiah, and JamariaSpragans, Christel, and Calvin Dorton. Brothers: Kenneth Spragans Sr. and Darvis Spragans (D’angela). Sisters: Sinnie Goodman, Lillian Lassiter and Zelldene Johnson (Michael). A host of nieces, nephews and friends.
