Sergio Jimenez, a beloved member of his community and dedicated family man, passed away on October 29, 2024 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was born on July 5, 1960, in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, where his journey began before he made a lasting impact in the United States.
Sergio was widely respected as a Junior Olympic Commissioner at USA Softball of Central Virginia, a role he embraced with passion since January 1, 2021. His contributions to sports extended beyond youth softball; he was known for officiating both football and softball throughout the state of Virginia. With a remarkable career that also included service at the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the United States Air Force, from which he retired in 1999 after twenty years of dedicated service, Sergio exemplified a life of commitment not just to his profession but to the ideals of leadership and mentorship.
A proud graduate of Strayer University, Sergio approached every opportunity with determination and a spirit of inquiry. His professional journey continued at Capstone Corporation, where he worked from February 2015 until April 12, 2019. Throughout his career, he built lasting relationships and earned the respect of his peers.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sergio cherished his role as a husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, and three devoted children: Kalani Guarino, Jennifer Jimenez-Witham, and Sergio Jimenez Jr. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Domingo and Richie, and his sister, Elvira. Sergio’s legacy will continue to thrive through the values he instilled in his family and the countless lives he touched along the way.
Sergio found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep appreciation for watching shows like "Law & Order" and following the weather reports of Alexandra Steele. These interests were a reflection of his curious nature and the warmth he brought to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Piedad Jimenez, along with his brother Abraham and sister Anita. Their memories will forever be cherished as part of Sergio’s enduring legacy.
A viewing to celebrate Sergio's life will be held on November 1, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Brothers Funeral Home in Hampton, Virginia. In these moments of remembrance, we honor a man whose impact resonated far beyond his years, a true testament to the love and dedication he shared with all. He will be buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia at a later date with full military honors.
