Sherline Dickens Obituary

Sherline J. Dickens, age 63, loving mother of three, and adoring wife to husband John “Moby” Dickens, passed away in the late hours of January 17, 2022, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sherline was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was born on August 22, 1958, to the late Lourine Jernagin and S.J. Williams in Money, Mississippi. Sherline attended Greenwood Public Schools and graduated from Greenwood High School. She went on to further her education by graduating from Mississippi Valley State with her Bachelors and Brenau University with her Masters. She married the love of her life, John “Moby” Dickens, in August 1978.  Together they shared 43 years of marriage, and to that union three children were born Jon, Andrew, and Cassidi. They were also blessed to raise her nephew, Demorris Russell, as her own. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age at McKinney Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi.

Sherline moved to New Jersey from Mississippi in 1982 to pursue her career in IT, and moved again for work in 1990 to Roswell, Ga where she would stay for the next 30 years before moving to Hampton, Va with her daughter Cassidi. Sherline worked at AT&T as a Programmer for 20 years, and most recently UPS, where she has worked for 18 years as a Senior Applications Developer.

In Sherline’s free time she enjoyed reading, traveling, making jewelry, and going to casinos. She was an avid reader and would always carry at least 2 books at all times. When it came to traveling she always kept a suitcase packed and ready for her next adventure whether near or far. She visited Hawaii, London, Germany, and went on a Mediterranean cruise, with plans to visit Paris in the Spring. She traveled with anybody who was ready to go, and her friends Tracy Jewett, Kim Beck, and Mina Richie were always ready. When Sherline wanted to travel in the States it would be to visit family and spend time with friends going shopping, eating seafood, and going to casinos. Sherline dedicated two weeks out of their year to spend in Memphis, Tn with her niece Brenda and her family. She used her downtime at home making jewelry. Sherline was known to put together matching sets of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets for any occasion. Making jewelry was something that she loved to do to keep her hands busy, and she had the opportunity to share this craft with her great-niece Ashlei. At one point in time, she sold jewelry in a small shop in Cumming, Ga, and would set up a booth at various farmer’s markets around the Metro Atlanta area with her business partner Vivian Aikens.

Sherline also loved doing for those who were less fortunate. While working at UPS she was given several opportunities to participate in programs to give back to the community and she took them on and went above and beyond. Sherline would adopt a family during Christmas and provide families their wish list items and anything else she thought they should have. She also participated in programs to provide women in shelters the necessary feminine and hygiene products they needed.

She was preceded in death by her sister (Mary Edna), brother (Lee Norris), and son (Andrew). She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Moby, brother Donell (Dena), son Jon, daughter Cassidi (Robert), and nephew Demorris. Six grandchildren Monica, LeeAndrea, Jaydon, Triston, Kennedi, and Blake and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
