Tannoccus Patterson Obituary

In this solemn hour of parting,

Beyond the veil, your journey starts.

In our hearts, your memory lingers,

A symphony of life’s sweet whispers.

Though you sailed to distant shores,

In our thoughts, you open doors.

Rest now in peace, beyond the sun,

Your legacy lives on,

Through the love you’ve spun.

Tannoccus Ryan Patterson, Sr. (affectionally known as “Big Noc”) was born on June 3, 1976, to Hermanski and Gwendolyn Bowie Patterson at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. Tannoccus gained his wings on December 26, 2024, while celebrating the holidays with his family in Augusta, GA.

Tannoccus accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Antioch Baptist Church, Hampton, under the leadership of Rev. Howard Booker. He was educated in the Hampton City School System and graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1996. At nineteen, he started his career in the food services industry as a dishwasher.  He advanced through the ranks to become an Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager. He continued his education at one of the nation's top culinary schools, Johnson and Wales University, where he obtained an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Food Services Management. He is the chef/owner of Break Bread Culinary Services, LLC, and the founding owner of Big Business Group, LLC. He later opened his catering business, Break Bread, with his mother, serving the community of Hampton Roads. Tannoccus married the love of his life, Yvette Long, on August 15, 2015. One of his greatest joys was preparing gourmet meals with her and hosting family gatherings at their home.

Tannoccus was very intentional about pursuing financial independence and, later, decided to pursue career opportunities at the Norfolk Shipyard. He started as a pipefitter helper, studied and watched videos, and eventually excelled in pipefitting as a career. Always ready to seek out opportunity or a challenge, Tannoccus persisted until he was promoted to a supervisory role with East Coast Pipefitters. He traveled to work in Wisconsin, San Diego, and Jacksonville, Florida. His most recent position was with BAE Systems in Norfolk, VA.

After Tannoccus was diagnosed with gout, he learned thatcookbooks did not exist to guide individuals living with gout. With his mother's assistance, he wrote a book, Eating with Gout, Parts I and II. Doctors throughout the United States referred their patients to his book.

Tannoccus was always working on something. One example of a project he had in progress was developing a program to help convicted felons re-enter the job market. He also loved to watch movies and go deep-sea fishing with his family and friends.Tannoccus was gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Our memories of his life, love, and laughter will carry us through our grief.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Yvette Long Patterson, his dog and faithful companion, Wraith, \ his son Tannoccus Ryan Patterson, Jr., parents Hermanski and Gwendolyn Patterson of Hampton, brother Hermanski (Alicia) Patterson, II, of Virginia Beach, sisters Tschenavia Patterson of Hampton, and Kaleena (Raymond) Lopez of Evans, Georgia. Nine nephews, Khalid Carter of Suffolk, Virginia; Kyree Patterson of San Diego, California; JaQuez Arrington, Kavon Patterson, and Nicholas Smith of Hampton, Virginia; Raymond Lopez, Jr., of Evans, Georgia, Kasir, Kadian, and Kaseem Jacquila (KJ) Patterson of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Three nieces, Taylor Olamigotke of Hampton, Virginia, Alana Lopez of Jacksonville, Florida, and Layna Lopez of Evans, Georgia. Also left to cherish the life of Tannoccus are numerous Uncles, Aunts, and a host of cousins and friends.

As we bid farewell to Tannoccus, remember and honor his impact on our lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may our shared memories bring comfort during this difficult time.
