Timothy Earl Gorham, beloved husband, cherished son, brother, and friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully at his home in Hampton on April 23, 2024. Born on October 10, 1983, in Hampton, Virginia to James and Sylvia Gorham, Timothy was a family man who loved to support others. He graduated from Hampton High School in 2002 where he was on the football and wrestling teams. After graduation, he attended St. Paul’s College and then transferred to Virginia State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public administration in 2007.
After college, he had several careers in the mental health field with adults as well as with children with moderate to severe disabilities including the Pines Residential Treatment Center, Evolve Counseling, and the Newport News Parks and Recreation.
Timothy later accepted a position at the Hampton Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. For five years he worked in unarmed and armed settings on the SERT Team, in the city jail, in the courts, on the transportation team, and assisting Hampton Police Department in the community. Currently he was employed at Huntington Ingalls Newport News Shipbuilding as a Nuclear Security Officer. Timothy feltwhile working in law enforcement it taught him the importance of handling stressful situations while working with others, staying professional and seeing the mission through. He made it his mission was to make sure the facility was secure and everyone who entered the facility went home safely.
In 2008, Timothy began dating the love of his life Staci and they married in June 2013. (He wrote his vision down of marrying Staci on his closet door and on his football cleats.) Celebrating almost 11 years of marriage, their partnership was filled with mutual respect, laughter, and love. Together they built a beautiful life filled with joyous memories and adventures with their two furry babies, Snickers and Lola.
Timothy was an enthusiastic sneaker head that loved keeping up with and researching the newest sneaker releases. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, vacationing, watching football and basketball, reading, and watching Japanese anime.
Timothy was preceded in death by his father James Earl Gorham. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Staci; mother Sylvia Gorham; his siblings: Shauna Bell, Derrick Gorham, Kellee Gorham-Land (Robert), and Erica Gorham; nieces and nephews: Brittany Gorham, Eric Gorham (Mya), Malcolm Gorham (Jamela), Keosha Small, Trenton Gorham (Samantha), Taylor Gorham-Land, Elijah Gorham, Ezra Porter, and Jeremiah Porter; his in-laws: Samuel and Constance Massenburg, Michael Stephenson, Rachel Porter (Herbert), Samuel Massenburg Jr. (Zeborah), Darius Massenburg, Maurice Massenburg (Farrah), and Chantel Massenburg; special thanks to Alvester and Regina Dent, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, May 2nd from 2:00-7:00pm at Smith Brothers Funeral Home. The home going service will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 11:00am at C3 Hampton. At the request of the family, a private ceremony will be scheduled for a later date.
