Vernell McLaurin

Vernell McLaurin was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend.

She was loving and compassionate woman with a great sense of humor with the most wonderful laugh that would light up the room.Vernell was born September 3, 1933, in Fayetteville, North Carolina and went to be with Jesus November 27, 2022, at her home in Hampton Virginia. She was preceded by her daughter Greta (Phair) Roan and her grandson Jamar McLaurin. She is survived by her son Carlos Phair, her daughter in law Pauline Phair, her daughters Roberta McLaurin and Tammy (McLaurin) Antone, her son in law Douglas (Shabazz) Antone, her grandchildren Sophie Wince, Shamae Tillery, Sharah Macklin, Asha Ashford, Jean Luc Gamble, and her great grandchildren Howard Wince IV, Oliver Wince, Daniel Macklin, Maeley Tillery, Dominque Walton, Shaqueja McLaurin, Donnivyn McLaurin, Sincere McLaurin, her great-great grandchildren Dominque S. Walton, Kyria Walton, Arianna Walton, Denim Walton, Zyaire Walton.

Vernell loved the Lord and was a member of Victory Life Church where she served as an usher and greeter for as long as her health allowed. She volunteered for the Salvation Army during the holiday seasons for many years and donated to several charities until her death, she was a generous person that never hesitated to share her blessings.

She was hired by First National City Bank which later became Citi Bank in 1973 as a teller/typist then as a foreign note teller and finally a loan officer working there for 26 years. She retired in 1999 and moved to Virginia to be closer to family as she was always a country girl at heart.

She enjoyed going to church, reading, listening to Christian music, watching old westerns and most of all being surrounded by her children, grandchildren great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her
