Victor Emanuel Eley Jr.

SGM Victor E. Eley Jr. , 81 went home to the Lord as he passed away peacefully Friday August 19, 2022 at Sentara Careplex Hospital surrounded by the loving arms of his family.  He was born in Newport News, VA and has been a Hampton resident since 1984. He served in the military from 1958-1984, giving the Army over 26 years of his life and retiring as a U.S. Army, Sergeant Major in 1984. He then went on to work many years as a driver for Newton's Bus Service out of Gloucester, VA. He loved to travel and enjoyed driving the highways traveling from state to state, meeting new people and taking them to their destinations. His last years working was spent civil service with the U.S. Army at Fort Eustis for 12 years as a training specialist. 
Victor was a family man and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed watching sports on the TV and dabbled a bit in golf in his earlier years. He was also an avid runner and found great pleasure in running miles at Fort Monroe when he was able. Vic remained a diehard Redskins football fan and looked forward to watching those football games every opportunity he could. 
Victor was preceded in death by his mother Theola Chapman; father Victor E. Eley Sr., and brother Joseph Warren. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Muriel M. Eley of 49 years; daughters Kimberly Eley (Antonio), Vanetta Eley O'Reilly and Vickie Eley; sister Joyce Warren Collins; brother Norton Chapman; stepsister Gloria Holden Hamlette (John) along with 7 grandchildren (Chiriga, Sanura, Fionnghuala, Makeda, Niara, Nadira and Aoife); 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A homegoing service will be at noon Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, Hampton. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 2-7pm at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, Hampton.
