Virine Hardy Streater, 74, peacefully passed away at her home on December 24, 2025, following an extended illness. Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to George and Rosa Hardy, Virine lived a life defined by faith, love, service, and an unwavering commitment to others.
Virine gave her life to Christ at a young age and remained rooted in her faith throughout her life. She was an active member of her home church, Sunny Level Baptist Church, and later continued her faithful service as an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
A proud graduate of Norfolk State University, Virine devoted more than 40 years to education before retiring as a mathematics teacher at Hampton High School. Teaching was not just her profession—it was her ministry. She believed deeply in her students and often went above and beyond to ensure their success. Many credit her with changing the course of their lives through her patience, dedication, and encouragement.
While attending Norfolk State University, Virine became a member of the Pershing Angels Sorority, an organization she cherished deeply. She remained an active and committed member throughout her life, continuing to embody the sisterhood, service, and excellence that defined the organization.
In addition to her dedication to education, Virine faithfully served alongside her beloved husband, Carl Streater, throughout his more than 25 years of service in the United States Army. Together, they traveled across the country, building community wherever they were stationed. Through each move, Virineremained a constant source of strength, grace, and support—balancing family life, faith, and service with unwavering devotion.
Outside the classroom, Virine found joy at “the farm,” affectionately known as The Ponderosa—her home place in Ringgold, Virginia. She never met a stranger and had an unmatched ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her home was always open, her fridge always full, and her heart always overflowing with love.
Virine was all about her family! She taught her grandson, nieces, and nephews how to experience life fully, with joy, laughter, and togetherness. Summers spent in her home were filled with adventure, love, and unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.
Virine was also a pillar of strength for her family during their most difficult moments, carrying others with grace even while facing her own pain. Her faith, resilience, and quiet leadership will never be forgotten.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Selina Streater Hall (Charles Hall) of Kingsport, Tennessee; her son, Corey Streater of Hampton, Virginia; and her treasured grandsons, Charles B. Hall and Javion Hall. She is also survived by her brothers, Bennie Hardy and Benjamin Hardy; two sisters-in-law, Idell Gatling (James) and Regina Montague; twobrothers-in-law, Thomas Streater (Deborah) and Dennis Streater; and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Virine was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Carla Streater; her husband, Carl Streater; three brothers, Raymond Hardy, Elbert Hardy, and James Hardy; and three sisters, Johanna Hardy Hereford, Carrie Lee Crawley, and Loran Clark; two sisters-in-laws, Annette Roundtree and Renee’Streater.
Though her physical presence is gone, Virine’s legacy of faith, love, laughter, and service lives on through her family, her students, and all who were blessed to her.
Rest peacefully Virine. Your work here is complete, and your legacy will never fade.
