Born 31 Oct 1934 son of Claudius and Willie Louise Wright Johnson in Matthews, Georgia. At age 2 the family moved to Washington, DC for a year then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and established permanent residence there. 

 

William was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System where he excelled in track and football at Murrell Dobbins Tech School. 

 

He then entered the United States Air Force in 1953 during the Korean War. After basic training he was sent to medical school at Fort Sam Houston,Texas. After completion he was sent to Korea to help treat the troops. 

 

He then left Korea in 1954 and to Hokkaido, Japan to open a new base hospital at Chitose Air Base. He left there in 1956 and was sent to Selfridge Air Force Base Michigan. He was discharged in 1957, went to electronic school in 1958 and reenlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 at McGuire Air Force Base where he stayed until 1965 and he was reassigned to Kadena Air Force Base Okinawa, Japan in 1967. When he returned home before reporting to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland he met and married his first wife Connie Jane Harris. The family relocated to Washington DC. In 1971 he was sent back to Korea to Osan Air Force Base until he returned in 1972. He was assigned to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia until his retirement in 1975. Him and Connie were divorced in 1977 after 10 years of marriage. He then met and married the love of his life Trudy Gertrude E. Pender. They remained happily married for 26 years until her unfortunate passing in 2003. 

 

He worked at Phoebus High School until his retirement in 1997. He loved the game of chess. He was a champion chess player! He was an avid gardener when he had a backyard! 

 

He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and gave his life unto Him as his personal savior..... his faith was solid as a rock!!!

 

He leaves to cherish his only sister, Eloise Johnson Terry; nephew, Anthony; niece, Sharon; great nieces and nephews Markia (preceded in death) Gabrielle, BiShara, Omar, Tywuan; five great great nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and friends a very special beloved bonus granddaughter Jacqueline Randall.
